On January 26, 2020, at approximately 9:06 a.m. Investigative updates published by the National Transportation Safety Board during the accident investigation state that the helicopter was not fitted with a flight data recorder (FDR) or cockpit voice recorder (CVR) nor was it required to be, : 9 there was no evidence of drug or alcohol use, and that viewable sections of the engines showed no evidence of an uncontained or catastrophic internal failure. All nine people on board were killed on impact: retired professional basketball player Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, baseball coach John Altobelli, five other passengers, and the pilot.
